Murcia News from Mucia Villas
The chart illustrates the decline in the GBP/EUR cross after sterling started the week on the back foot. On Tuesday a reading of UK inflation, the Consumer Price Index, fell by more than initially anticipated. Market participants sold the pound after the announcement as it suggests the UK’s recovery may be beginning to slow.
Much of the pound’s gains over the past few weeks have been tied to speculation that the economy is recovering sufficiently to warrant alterations in monetary policy by the Bank of England. Interest Rates have been the most widely discussed component of the BoE’s province of control as Mark Carney, after pledging to keep the public informed of his decision process, initially stated that a discussion on a rate increase would only take place after Unemployment in the UK fell to 7%.
The Governor has been quick to reiterate, however, that 7% Unemployment is only a suggested level and that Britain’s recovery needs to be balanced and sustainable before any major policy changes can take place.
Paramount Studios in Murcia
Premursa Theme Park S.A., the company in charge of getting the Paramount Theme Park in Alhama de Murcia up and running, has announced that the initial works contracts for construction of the complex have been awarded for a total of 72 million euros.
52 million euros of this amount is the budgeted cost of construction for the first of the two phases of the Parque Tematico Paramount, the winning bid having been submitted by Ferrovial Agroman. The multinational company based in Madrid fought off ten other bids, including interest from five other stock exchange listed companies, and will also be in charge of construction on the second phase: as yet no price has been finalized for this, although in theory it will be built at the same time as the first phase.
Meanwhile, the start date of January next year appears to be fixed. Before that, though, the Town Hall of Alhama de Murcia has to approve the building licence, and in order to do so council officials will have to wade through the 6,000 plans and thousands more pages of documentation which make up the project. The signposting within the theme park alone accounts for more than 300 pages, so they can be forgiven for taking their time.
It's a long way off completion, but a Paramount Pictures-branded theme park is set to open in Murcia in 2016. The plan for the park was announced last week, revealing that zones will be themed on Paramount movies, such as Star Trek and Mission Impossible, on a site between Mazarrón and Alhama de Murcia, 20 minutes from the beach and the marina resort of Puerto de Mazarrón and just 10 minutes from our Mucia Villas offices in Camposol and Puerto de Mazarron. At least five hotels will be built on site, along with shopping malls, bars, clubs and an auditorium that will take 15,000 people. Over one billion euros is to be invested in the park and will employ over 10,000 people over the course of construction.
The site is an ideal location as Murcia has about 300 days of sunshine a year -- important for the vitality of any theme park. It is also close to air and ground transportation with the new roads already in operation and, 20 minutes away, the new International airport at Corvera due to open at the end of 2014.
